Zoom Buggy—Lesson Five (Contrasting Sounds)
Ding, dong! Click, click, clack! This week during the song Zum Gali Gali, we explored the “short” sound of the woodblock and the “looong” sound of the triangle. The babies’ responses were amazing to watch.
Learning to distinguish one sound from another is an important component in speech and language development. Exposure and playing with contrasting high, low, long, and short sounds tunes your baby’s ears, preparing the groundwork for speech—which typically occurs between eight and eighteen months.
This week, liven up bath time with some silly, jibber jabber, funny, imitative sounds. Contrasting sounds like short and long will perk up your baby’s ears. For starters click your tongue several times and then imitate an owl (whoooo, whooooo). Pause every once in a while and let your baby join in the fun.
Just clicking and babbling along,
