Well! Can I say that time is just flying by? Can you believe that we are already 3 weeks into our fall semester? I can't tell you how wonderful it has been to meet new families and reunite with our existing families! The children have grown (some considerably!) over the summer and acquired new skills and stories to share. I have been delighted each week in how your children come into the classroom, anxious to share in the community of music makers that we are!
You have been wonderful in encouraging your child to be just who they are right now. This is so important in our Kindermusik environment. We don't do justice to our children by expecting them to fit into a nice and neat little box. What we do have to offer is a willingness to be taught by our children about their learning styles, abilities, frustrations, limitations and willingness to be a classroom adventurer. When you allow your child to define some of their classtime experiences by just being who they are, they feel security in that they are supported and loved regardless in how they choose to respond to the classroom activities. We do have a fine line to walk in terms of offering safe boundaries and expectations, but make sure that what you expect is in line with where your child is developmentally.
I admire each one of you for making the committment to come and play alongside your child each week! Remember, child's play is their work. Their opportunity to explore and learn through pretend and experiential play, all the while learning and assimilating how the world around them works. Continue to listen to your home CD's and sing, sing, sing! Extend the classroom activities at home and please share any successes you have with the class, we'll celebrate right along with you!
Musically yours, Miss Shawna
